The beautiful herb and vegetable gardens still retain the atmosphere of the Dutch Renaissance. The gardens of Muiderslot castle were designed and created in the 17th century. They served a decorative purpose and supplied vegetables, fruit and herbs for the table. It was always practical and necessary to have food nearby. The garden is a wonderful place to enjoy and relax in. Wander along the beautiful beech alley, the vegetable and herb garden and prune orchard.

A walk along the ramparts offers fantastic views of the water-rich environments and the Pampus island fortress. The castle is surrounded by its own moat but outside the ramparts you’ll find the waterworks and sea water inlet that are part of the 17th century defence works.

The ‘Waterschild’ Pavilion. In this sunken building, located in the garden west of the castle in between the fruit trees, you’ll learn everything about the history of the castle and its surrounding waters through the centuries. Besides being informative it’s also a ‘splashing’ experience!

Have a drink or snack at the ‘Taveerne’ in the beautiful inner courtyard or have a lunch picknick in the garden or ramparts.

Throughout the year all kinds of events and concerts are organized in the castle. Check out the castle’s agenda:
